The plan for Wednesday morning was to paint online and chat with Marc Holmes on InstaLive. And we really did try, but an hour of technical difficulties, with abysmal sound and video quality made it far from the fun experience these sessions usually are. (If you were one of the people that joined in and stayed on, you’re a saint!)
We were to work from a photo by Laurel Holmes, and it was a pretty challenging one.
I didn’t get far with it in the session and wasn’t happy with it.

So I gave it another shot.

And I didn’t think much of that one either. Which makes me think the problem is that I haven’t figured what I want to do with this piece. The photograph has drama, energy, and great light, but what do I want to do with it? If I come up with an answer I’ll give this another shot.
Here’s a link you can download Laurel’s photo at and try your own version. As for my sketch session with Marc, I was looking forward to not only sketching but also chatting with him, so we’ll just have to do that another time!
Wow! I looked at the photo and it does have a lot of drama and interest! Thanks for including your works at different stages.

It’s a good thing you didn’t pick a complicated scene with dramatic night lighting. That really would have been difficult : ) I hope we don’t have the same problems next week, especially when we are on data and not wifi.

I know, right? Gotta pat myself on the back for a good, sensible decision. I thought of next week, when this happened. Lets chat about that! 🙂
