I’m saving the idea of knowing when to stop for another day. Because right now, I’m a bit obsessed with piling layer on layer of media on my pieces, often obliterating one take with a second. The results are often in the “pushed-too-far” category, like the two pieces below. But why stop when I am having so much fun?

Happy Piling It On Day! We’ll talk about “less is more” another day.
If the result is so impressive, no argument against piling it on can hold! And fall is the season of overflow, short but so rich in colors!

Love that! Also had loads of fun in the class last night. IN WHICH I PILED ON AND WENT TOO FAR ! And enjoyed myself so much.

The longer I sketch and the older I get, which are for some reason parallel situations, the more I realize that I do this for fun, and as Liz Steele says, “for me.” So if piling it on is fun then go for it. Yet I do get what you mean, I have turned many a watercolor into a muddy mess by piling on too much.
