Playing with Ink

I’ve been painting a fair bit with inks recently. I love how they flow and how vibrant the colors are.

This rooster is painted in a triad of red, yellow, and blue ink from Higgins, with black ink line and some gouache to complete the picture.

Here’s a little movie that captures some of the painting process.

Here’s another piece that began as a great big splotch of inks doing their thing on paper. I love working like this: starting off with some high-energy moves on blank paper, and then seeing if I can pull it all back into something coherent.

If you’ve always just loaded your fountain pens with ink, but never painted directly with them, give it a try, it’s super fun!

  5. That rooster sketch is the coolest sketch I have seen in a long time, both in technique and final result. Thank you for sharing! I must have watched it 7 or 8 times, lol!
