Hakone Gardens in a little gem of a place in Saratoga. (It’s not super-little, there are 18 acres of land the garden sits on but the Japanese garden is a small part of that.) I went sketching there with Nina Khaschina on one of our regular sketching meetups.
The piece in my last post is the first sketch I made that afternoon. Here are the other two.
You can see in this first piece that I am loving those red Japanese maple trees.

So I moved in closer to one of them for this second piece. It’s a bit over the top, I think. But I had a blast making it. And that counts for a lot, right?

I loved visiting there last year yes it is a gem…

Yes, a wonderful place. And if I’m not mistaken (I might be) there’s an amazing bamboo grove there too
