California Poppy Day

California Poppies are our state flower and they have a day dedicated to them. That day is today: April 6th is California Poppy Day.

Both these pieces were painted on location, sitting among the poppies. Such a great feeling!

Can you tell I am totally loving the bloom-overload that poppy season brings? This piece is painted in the evening, and the poppies are starting to close up as the sun goes low in the sky.

Here’s another, perhaps more restrained, piece.
