Mustard and Wild Radish

A few weeks ago spring announced itself in the hills near home, with mustard and wild radish flowers everywhere.

On the page below, an assortment of approaches: the sketch at the top of the page is brown ink and watercolor. At the bottom left is a vista in watercolor and water-soluble pencil: the view from the top of the hill, including our local landmark, Mount Umunhum. And at the bottom right, is a small study of wildflowers in pencil and watercolor.

And while some of the trees are still bare, the oaks are starting to fill out with new foliage.

So much energy in the oak sketch, it seems to be wriggling out the new growth! Love it.
