When I “arrange” flowers I am usually taking a grocery store bought bouquet and putting it into a vase. But Jessie takes apart store bouquets, adds a few special flowers from her local florist, mixes in interesting textures and colors of foliage. Her final arrangements are a complex mix of textures, colors and patterns. And, they have really interesting gestural lines in the arrangements that I love working with.
Here is a bouquet I sketched recently in a zoom session to celebrate Valentine’d Day and the Lunar New Year.
And here is a capture of my desk after it was done with the main tools I used in capturing it: watercolor, watersoluble crayons, and an Ackerman Pen. Many of you have asked about this pen. It’s a new tool I am loving playing with but don’t know enough about yet, except this: I love dip pens and I am fine with inky fingers. Both these seem like prerequisites to using the pen.
Also pictured, my most important tool to creating when at home: hot tea.
