Come summer and tomatoes are on my mind. The backyard tomatoes did surprisingly well this year and are appearing in my sketchbook in all sorts of forms.

What’s your go-to way to eat a summer tomato? If they’re super-tasty, I’ll east them as is. Or add a bit of balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. Sometimes, basil and chunks of mozzarella find their way into the mix too.
wonderful, crazy, print-like image, “tomatoes and cup of chai”

Re the best of all delicacies, homegrown tomatoes: Make Bruschetta, using diced tomatoes including their juice, plus garlic, sale, basil, olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes preserved in oil. Mix together and spoon this onto pieces of crusty bread.

I love the color palette andd graphic quality of the tomatoes and cup of chai, and on the second, you’ve managed to make the LIGHT that is shining on that bowl of tomatoes amazingly, stunningly visible. Whenever I’ve had tomatoes growing in the garden, I like to carry salt and pepper shakers out with me, pick one, sprinkle, and eat it right on the spot

That bowl of tomatoes is masterful. Beautifully drawn and painted. Wonderful values, composition, etc., etc. You’ve really captured their beauty.
As someone who has tried to paint tomatoes many times (I’m growing over a dozen varieties right now), I really appreciate what you’ve done with these.
You chose the perfect bowl to cradle them.

Suhita, I love your bowl of tomatoes!! The shadows are spot on, colors perfect…and the design brilliant!! The large dark square shape attaching to the left top corner…masterful!

Do you realize you are getting better? You are now doing nicer watercolour without black contour lines. You know it is much harder this way. Personally, I can do reasonably good looking watercoulours with black lines but not without them. John Singer Sargent is always my reference. You are getting better and better. Congratulations.

Thank you for the kind words, Jito. I love painting without lines, but I also love line and like to work that way too…

I love to pop cherry tomatoes into my mouth, still warm from the sun.
