Day 61 at Home: Finding New Ways to Connect

=One of the saddest bits of the summer ahead of us is that I will not be visiting India. That means not seeing a lot of family I was looking forward to gathering together with to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary.

But we’ve been doing something else together that’s really fun. We pick a picture a few days in advance, then draw together on Zoom. I do light instruction through the drawing process, mostly focussing on seeing what is before us, and not drawing symbols. And then we draw, paint and post our sketches on a family WhatsApp group. It’s fun to chat while we relax and draw and paint.

Here are a few of the things we drew recently. I’d love to share what everyone else did sometime, but I should check with them first, so here are my pieces.

From our very first drawing session, this gorgeous red-eyed tree frog.
Session 2: Bee Eaters
Session 3: Taxis in Bombay

I’m looking forward to next week’s session already.

This is just lovely. What a wonderful idea, and your family can be together for awhile without having to talk the whole time. Is there some quiet?

Does your family draw/paint along with you or do you draw and they watch and comment? Either way, they must appreciate your talent. What a nice way to share.
