Day 59 at Home: More Car Sketching

Car sketching today after running an errand. No streaming though, which means no setup: just my sketch bag in the passenger seat, my sketchbook resting on the steering wheel, the water container and palette next to me. (I liked having the lap desk yesterday but it limits which side of the car I can sketch from. Usually the more “open” view is from the driver’s side, but having the lap desk makes for too tight a fit in my compact car.)

I stopped in an empty parking lot with a view of a gas station and this taco van, which, pre-covid, did brisk business at lunch. Today, a few people came by while I was there, but sitting with the quiet for a good half hour really brought home how much has changed. I tried capturing that sense of the distance between all of us in this sketch by using the natural divide in the book to break the scene into two separate bits.

  2. Nice paintings, they look good for something that was created in a car.
