So this perfect thing happens as I am ending yet another Sketching Play/Lab session with Paul Wang. My phone is still in “show sketchbook” position, my painting supplies still out, and the mail van parks by home. Not for one minute. But for a long while, to deliver the mail on our street and the cul de sac by us. How great is that? I set my phone on time lapse and I sketch.

And here is the time-lapse video of the sketch. I think I spent a good half hour on it.
This is predominantly a watercolor, pen & ink piece. Adding in just white gouache (M. Graham Titanium White is my favorite and I use it directly from the tube) lets me move into gouache territory without a complete new palette. It’s an especially fun technique when using toned paper or starting with a colored background.
great sketch
