Back to painting roses from the front yard. This time with a palette knife. Why? Because I was inspired by a really lovely piece by Pat Southern-Pearce where she used a palette knife as the drawing tool.

I have this 6-color ink set but acrylic ink is hard to clean off palette so I simply drop quantities of red, blue, yellow, black and white onto the paper and then smoosh them around with the palette knife to mix color as I go along.
Here’s a little bit of the painting process I captured as video.
Absolutely gorgeous and so luscious in spontaneity! Did you use inks alone or acrylics? I am anxious to try this. Thank you for this wonderful inspiration.

Thank you….I have some a Brusho crystals and added liquitex medium to give added body. I painted on a 6” wooden pallet with a pallet knife. The surface was previously prepared with gesso. It’s just an experiment….more undefined than I usually paint. I also rubbed out some areas….to blend and soften.
Thanks for the inspiration to use what I had on hand!

Nice Roses, I would never think of doing that with a palette knife.

Stunning and a style that mirrors the nature of rose petals.
