Day 8 at Home: Sketching in my Comfort Zone

I want to learn new stuff, work on projects I have ideas for but never got down to. Or so I think. Turns out, what I really want to do is just sketch in my comfort zone, working on quick little sketches, not big long projects.

Line is that comfort thing for me. Paul Klee said it so well: Drawing is taking a line for a walk. That is all I want to do. Over and over.

My kids have a weekday schedule going that involves a couple of hours of Khan Academy in the morning, subject of your choice, doesn’t have to be a school subject. It has really helped give our day some structure.

The writing and drawings you’re seeing around the edges of these sketches are because this is the workbook that goes with the book Draw Your Day. I know I won’t use it as a workbook, but it seems a shame to not use a blank book, so I’m sketching in it now. Its great for dry media and for the lightest of washes, but I tend to pool water and pigment on a page and it does not like that.

And the pen I’m using which I found while clearing up my desk is a Sheaffer rollerball pen that glides on this paper beautifully.

I sat in the front of the house for a bit watching the neighbors kids play basketball. A postman came by and a dog walker or two too. Those dogs are getting a LOT of walks these days. This fat line is my Sailor Bent Nib, of course.

And finally, I drew the cars in my front yard before coming back in.

And that was my Monday.
