India 2019: Bombay Meri Jaan

Mumbai. Always Bombay to me, a city I love. Sadly, I had a super-short time there on my way back home. Still, I stole in a few sketches at some favorite spots.

At the Babulnath Temple, as people and goods stream in and out of that ancient gateway.

And just around the corner, this mullahji and his fruit cart.

In Santa Cruz I stopped to sketch Ashad Quereshi’s Biryani House. Full Biryani for Rs.50, half for Rs.30. Huge pots of biryani and salan, packed into little plastic bags and carried away home or heaped generously onto steel plates for immediate consumption.

One last quick sketch of Rahul’s Aloo Sandwich Cart where the only option is the fast-selling Bombay Sandwich.

And a selfie with the collection of boys who hung around, heckled each other, and critiqued my sketch all the time I drew. A lovely end to a whirlwind trip.

Fabulous and amazingly gorgeous sketches, Suhita! I so love the images that capture every day life in motion. Just incredible. And I wondered if people watched or asked you every three minutes for selfies?!

    • Thanks Stephanie! People watch all the time, and take photos,it doesn’t bother me. I only have them move a bit if they’re blocking my view. It helps that I can banter and join in the conversation…

  2. I would love to taste a Bombay Sandwich!!! Thank you so much for this whole series – absolutely delightful!
