You asked for an online class, and here it is!
I’m excited to announce that my first online class, ‘Figure Sketching Made Simple‘ is now live at Craftsy.com. Nicko King is the lucky winner of the drawing for a free class. Congratulations Nicko!
I used lots of feedback from students in my workshops and readers of this blog to develop the content of this class. To say thank you, I am offering a 50% off link to the class.
If you’ve never taken a Craftsy class before, here’s some things you should know. You have lifetime access to a class you buy and can watch and learn at your own pace on your computer, tablet or smartphone. You can ask questions and participate in discussions, making it a collective learning experience. I will answer your questions and would love to see any work that you share on the class platform.
There are 6 lessons in this roughly 1.5 hour class plus a bonus lesson that gives you all the reference videos we will use to work with on your own. This class is specifically designed to give you the skills to sketch people on location, so it’s a perfect fit for urban sketchers, plein air painters, and sketchbook artists. The real learning will be in your taking what you learn here in class out into the world sketching and having fun with it!
Some of the stumbling blocks most often expressed by you are an intimidation of anatomy study, or just an inability to make people come alive in your sketches. In this class, we dive right in with free and gestural sketching right from lesson 1. We’ll learn how to use these loose sketching methods to capture figures full of life, whether they are sitting, standing or quickly moving figures. We’ll make out figures tell stories and capture fleeting actions. We’ll explore understanding what you see in fast paced actions more clearly. We’ll draw interactions between people, we’ll learn how to say a lot with just a little color, and finally we’ll tackle composition and bring everything we’ve learnt together in an exciting sketch.
If you are as excited as I am, jump right in and use this link for your 50% off price to the class. And yes, feel free to share it with your friends!

I just want to thank you for doing the workshop. I have watched all the videos to gain an understanding of the workshop. Now I am going back to Lesson 1 for a closer look and to do the homework as suggested. Thank you for answering my questions on the Craftsy platform.
