I started to sketch a few of the kids and their teacher as they lined up for the 5th grader Halloween Parade, and then this incredible dragon on stilts appeared. Look in that monster head and you’ll see a tiny face: This kid spent 4 weekends building this costume with his dad. I only sketched him once he settled down to watch the parade, but he was quite a sight when he walked around on his stilts.

Wow! What a wonderful father/son experience. They will have that memory for a lifetime.

Suhita, what a great way to capture the moment. I was fascinated when you sat down, started to sketch and I saw Finn appearing on your sketchbook.
Andrea, is absolutely correct with this project being a wonderful experience for Finn and myself. Finn came across an amazing costume on youtube (https://youtu.be/wB2HTAcbmck) in February and wanted build a costume with stilts. We started with the stilts which he had to master first. In August we looked into how to actually build the dragon head (foam tiles, insulation, wire and Slurpee lids from 7eleven for the eyes) and later the rest (an old camping mattress had to give to make the dragon’s back). I think I will frame a print of your drawing and hang it on the Finn’s wall, next to the dragon’s head ….. Thank you!!!!!
