Two Missions, two doors: Drawing little corners.

On our road trip down the coast from San Jose to LA we stopped by two Missions: the smaller, lesser known Mission San Miguel and the grander Mission Santa Barbara. Interestingly, I sketched very similar views at both places: a small, decrepit gateway in the outer wall of the Mission grounds. Maybe it’s because I’m a sucker for crumbling, dilapidated structures. Or maybe these little vignettes capture the sense of quiet I feel at both places better than the grander facades would.

The archway in the wall at Mission San Miguel. With a little string of Christmas lights still on it.
