Happy 2015. A week in drinks.

I am just back from a week-long road trip with my kids. Sketches coming soon, but here’s some of what we sipped last week.

Hot tea in a paper cup in Pismo. I’m fascinated by the designs on these cups. Who designs them? And what inspires them? This one has an abstract pattern in blue and ochre circles.

It’s never a road trip without a stop a stop at Denny’s.

The kids share a hot chocolate in a touristy little town called Solvang.

Tea. Santa Barbara.

Chai in a lovely earthenware mug. At my friend Aditi’s home in Los Angeles.

If you let the kids make their own milkshake combo you end up with strange stuff like this: a strawberry and chocolate chip shake with whipped cream. On a cold, rainy day in Los Angeles.

Back home today after a long drive. My ginger lemon tea. My tea bag says “Uplift everyone and uplift yourself.”

  12. Pretty impressive; not only are these nice sketches, but you were able to do these while traveling with kids. When I travel with kids, I barely get time to sketch at all (and have an even harder time keeping them away from my art supplies!)

Hiee Suhita, loved all your work, I am really inspired to paint too, like your daughter. I am going to follow you regularly. Although doing self learning, started doing few objects.
Can you pls help me with the pen you use in your paintings but as I am from India (delhi), if it is available here too. The sizes of the pens I should start with. It would be really helpful.
    Thanks a ton,
    Shivani

    • Shivani, my advice to any beginner: use what you find. I used really simple stuff when I started: Sharpie markers, a fountain pen bought from a corner store in Bangalore. The trick is to sketch/paint as much as you can.
