Finger-painting, Ed Emberley-style

Don’t know how it happened, but last week I found myself without a paintbrush in my bag. Paints, pens, water, sketchbook: yes. paintbrush: No. Oops. I wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to sketch, so fingerpainting it was.

Here are a couple a couple of my finger-painted sketches:

Quick little studies at my son’s soccer practice. It is fun to paint like Ed Emberley!

Sketching at In-N-Out Burger turned out to be perfect for finger-painting. You have to keep the colors pretty simple if you fingerpaint: no subtle shades, no wet-in-wet mixes. The basic yellow-red color scheme here worked well for that.

I had fun with these, and I noticed that people watching me paint were VERY amused to see me muck around my paints with my fingers.
