A day in Santa Cruz

Saturday afternoon at the Arboretum in Santa Cruz. This is the succulents section. A medley of form and texture. I wish I’d chosen a clear focal point to set up this composition….

And this is the blue whale skeleton at the Seymour Center. I’ve drawn this before, and hope I draw it again.  It’s a challenge to try and capture the bulk of a creature with just a skeleton to draw: Skeletons can look fragile when drawn, but I wanted to capture the imagined bulk of this creature. Maybe I needed to capture a person looking up at the skeleton to give it scale?
