Away from the madness: 2 days at the mango farm

If you haven’t eaten a warm Alphonso mango in the summer, you haven’t eaten a mango. I haven’t eaten one in 12 years now. My parents own an alphonso farm, but I only visit in the winter when the trees are in bloom, many months before the mangoes are ready to be plucked.

The farmhouse, sketched below, where my dad sits has a long thatched porch, and is surrounded by huge old mango trees.

Vijaydurg fort overlooks the ocean. This time, I didn’t climb up to the top, where the views are spectacular. Instead, I sketched the fort from down the road while the kids hiked up to the top and back.
