Daubs of color everywhere: flags, sadhus in saffron, kites and birds high up in the sky. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell them apart. I love how you can see all the way downriver, into the distance. Classic one point perspective. This first sketch took me a little over an hour to finish…
and then I turned around, facing upriver, and just for a little bit, the sky and the water were a beautiful, beautiful color. This next sketch was a quick 20 minute capture.
Another morning on the Ghats, by the municipal water pumping station. Rituals, prayers, and lots of lathering with Lifebuoy soap.
It’s never quiet on those ghats. There’s always praying and bathing in progress. This lady carefully pleats her sari after a dip in the Ganges.
Orange is my all-time favorite color. Which made this temple lots of fun to sketch.
